From the LVRJ: Cirque du Soleil announced this morning that the debut of “Criss Angel — Believe” will be pushed back two weeks. Ticketed previews that were to begin on Sept. 1 now will begin Sept. 12. The private party to mark the “official” debut has been pushed from Sept. 12 to Oct. 9. Spokeswoman Anita Nelving says technical delays made the cast about five weeks late moving into the custom theater at the Luxor from an off-Strip warehouse.
From the LA Times: This is the latest problem for a show that has been generating its share of controversy, mostly centered around the behavior of star Criss Angel.
It appears that we are starting to hear some rumblings about David Blaine's upcoming magic special which is in production at the moment. According to Dan Gross of the Philadelphia Daily News, "Magician David Blaine, wearing a wig, unleashed some tricks on unsuspecting women outside the Continental (2nd & Market) the other night. Blaine is touring the country shooting something to end at the Grand Canyon, a crew member told a fellow outdoor diner." Blaine was spotted in West Virginia at a local eatery also wearing a wig. While in the neighborhood, he met up with Grateful Dead front man Bob Weir, performed some magic, and went for a ride in his "Grateful Sedan," then vanished.
"Harry Houdini escaped every straitjacket and pair of handcuffs put on him, but he hasn't been able to find the keys to free his ghost trapped in the basement of the Washington Mutual bank building at Sunset and Vine," begins a recently updated article from the LA Daily News reporting of the fate of the Magicians Hall of Fame. The facility has been ordered closed since late 2004 when a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power transformer blew in an underground vault, contaminating the former NBC Radio building and Home Savings bank with carcinogenic polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs.
The Monte Carlo's headlining Magician Lance Burton performed a bit of magic with Barbara Walters on "THE VIEW," today, June 27. The show is broadcasting from Caesars Palace and it is the first time, while on location, that "The View" will broadcast in HDTV. Lance Burton saws Barbara Walters in half during the show in front of Caesars with temperatures close to 100-degrees on Wednesday. Lance Burton's girlfriend Gabriela Versace had a front row seat.
Internationally recognized magician Rocco Silano is best known for his sleeving techniques and and the creation of the magc prop "D'lite." Rocco is the recipient of both the Merlin and Golden Lion Awards. He has been nominated nine times as Magician of the Year by the Academy of Magical Arts and is the only American magician to win awards at two FISM World Tournaments. As a the coach for ANT on the Celebrity Magic Challenge and for Hal Sparks on VH1's Celebracadabra, Rocco has gained the attention of an even greater audience. Nathan Burton was presented with the 2008 Merlin Award as "Best Comedy Magician" during a 4 PM performance of his show on Wednesday. According to the Vegas Eye and Vegas Confidential, "Tony Hassini, founder of the International Magicians Society (IMS), along with Flamingo President, Don Marrandino, made the presentation. Past winners of the Merlin include Harry Blackstone, Doug Henning, Siegfried & Roy and David Copperfield.

Q: Why do magicians seem to hate each other so much?
A: [Laughs for a while] Professional jealously, competition, plus it’s a very, very small world. There’s a saying in magic that 5 percent of the magicians do the thinking for the other 95 percent. There is a core group of people that really respect each other and are always forward-thinking. And then there’s a whole bunch of magicians out there that take whatever the 5 percent do, whether it’s the costuming or the script, and that’s where a lot of the inner strife comes in. There’s a lot of infighting.

A magician, mixologist and chef Mario Batali are combining for a new type of event. The Magic, Martinis and Mario event the first of which is taking place on September 18 at Del Posto, Batali's restaurant in New York, offers more than just a dinner. Mixologist and Fine Living Network star, Tony Abou-Ganim will design custom cocktails for this special evening and teach diners how to recreate them at home. Also during the cocktail hour, entertainer Billy Harris will show sleight-of-hand magic tricks.
