UPCOMING MAGIC AUCTION FEATURED ON ABC NEWS IN CHICAGO

FROM ABC NEWS IN CHICAGO: Gabe Fajuri and his father, Sami, will auction off the posters on Saturday, March 26th. For fans of this type of memorabilia it will be a rare chance to look back and maybe buy a piece of the golden age of magic. "I would say that stone lithography had its heyday from the 1880's to the 1920's and most of these posters are from that period," said Sami Fajuri. Is it art? "Absolutely." A 1902 Houdini poster valued at about $20,000 is the rarest of the lot. It shows Houdini in a German court accused of being a swindler and a fraud by German police. But Houdini demonstrated his magic for the judge. "He won and forced a public apology to be issued by Kaiser Willhelm II," Gabe Fajuri said. "He escaped again." More than 100 hundred posters will be up for auction.

RAIDERS & MAGICIANS MOURN DR. ALBO

The world of magic and the Oakland Raiders are mourning the loss of team physician Dr. Robert Albo. In the magic community, Albo is known as the writer of the monumental Ten Volume "Magic With Apparatus". He was also known for his amazing personal collection.  From the Oakland Raiders Website:

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Robert Albo.

The Oakland Raiders have always admired his Commitment to Excellence that he constantly demonstrated in the art of medicine. His dedication to those who came in touch with him was outstanding and we recognize his great life.

The fire that burns brightest in Bob Albo was his relentless effort to bring the values and virtues that are the American way of life to those around him.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Marge and the family.

Here is a nice piece from Sports Illustrated in 1993.

HOUSEWIFE BY DAY - ESCAPEOLOGIST BY NIGHT

CBS news has posted a profile on Boston Escapeologist "Alexanderia the Great."  Here's a bit from the article:

For the past several months, Donna has been working out with a strength training coach and a breath holding coach.

A few of her friends think she's jumped off the deep end, but her kids like the idea of having an escape artist mom - in fact, they were relieved to find out that's all she is.

"We would walk around the house and we'd see chains and handcuffs in places," said her daughter.

Apparently, compared to that image - seeing your mom trapped in a tank of water is nothing.

RICHARD BLOCH IN THE NEWS

Just after an appearance on the cover of Magic Magazine, attorney, magician and magic theater owner Richard Bloch gets some press in the local media. The owner of Dickens Parlour Theatre of Magic talked to the Daily Times saying:

Lugging hundreds of pounds of equipment to magic performances and negotiating with the heavy hitters of football, Bloch said he keeps the two demanding parts of his life on different sides of the same door.

"There are frustrations on each side of that door. Being able to walk through it helps you maintain perspective and recharge your batteries," he said. "I think it's why I continue to be very happy with both areas of my life."

THIS WEEK IN MAGIC :: MCBRIDE & SPERRY

DAN SPERRY On this episode of This Week in Magic, Cameron Ramsay, David Kaye, Scott Wells and I get together with Dan Sperry and Jeff McBride to talk about the upcoming World Magic Seminar. What began as the Desert Close-Up Magic Seminar featuring the great Tony Slydini, with less than 100 attendees in 1978, has now become the premier annual magic event, the World Magic Seminar, with over 1000 attendees, and Las Vegas has become the “Magic Capitol of the World”! The memories made in the past give the Seminar its reputation, but it’s the memories to come that make it exciting.

HOUDINI'S SECRET LIFE REAPPEARS

Yet more Houdini media news from the Hollywood Reporter:
As Harry Houdini mounts his return to Hollywood with a recently revealed DreamWorks project and a possible Syfy TV series, a slightly older Houdini project is hoping to escape out of development chains.

Summit has hired Noah Oppenheim to pen its take on the master magician in an adaptation of The Secret Life of Houdini, The Making of America's First Superhero.

Summit picked up feature-film rights to the biography by William Kalush and Larry Sloman in March 2009.
