Two Vegas focused news writers discuss Lance Burton's future at the Monet Carlo as his contract comes due for renewal next week. Lance was due back at the Monte Carlo following surgery to repair his broken foot, but calls to the Monte Carlo box office indicated that no tickets were available until July. According to Norm Clarke writing for the Las Vegas Review Journal, "Is he re-signing? Looking elsewhere? Even the "R" word -- retirement -- has been circulating. Asked through an intermediary to address the latter question, Burton wasn't ready to show his cards. "He said he doesn't want to comment on it," said his publicist, Wayne Bernath"
According to Mike Weatherford, questions remain as to the future of Burton's show as two new magic shows appear on the strip. "Thomas will do a mix of afternoon and evening shows in the theater built in 2000 by fellow magician Steve Wyrick. Another magician, Brett Daniels, left quickly last year after a dispute with the stagehands union. 'Amazed' teams three magicians -- Mike Rayburn, Tim Gabrielson and Buzz Sutherland -- for afternoon shows in the V Theater at the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood starting June 27. Burton tentatively is set to return to the Monte Carlo on June 23, provided a doctor signs off on the foot he broke last month. But that would be almost the end of his contract year, his 13th in the theater he opened with the hotel. His publicist, Wayne Bernath, says Burton is "getting close to having an announcement soon." ..." Lance was the guest on the 100th episode of the Magic Newswire's "Spirit of Magic" podcast.
