UPDATE: This story was first reported here in September, but we now have additional details from the BBC 1 press release

According to the Daily Mail:

The BBC is to bring back a Saturday night magic show - almost 20 years after the corporation axed Paul Daniels.

A new series called The Magicians will see three acts competing for audience votes each week by performing a range of tricks with celebrity partners.

The show is due to begin early next year on BBC1, with comedian Lenny Henry currently in negotiations to present the series.

From the press release:

"I've always been a fan of magic on the TV,from David Nixon to David Blaine, Penn and Teller to Paul Daniels, and the far too glamorous Debbie McGee," he said.

"l love magic and the thing about me is that I don't want to know how it's done – I can't wait to host this show! You know the bloke with his jaw on the floor throughout most of the show? That will be me!" he added.
