It seems that magic has no bigger fan on the modern talk show circuit than Ellen Degeneres. We've previously reported on the myriad of magicians to make an appearance on the show. Today, video was posted on the Warner Bros. site of what appeared to be a protest encouraging Ellen to support "local magic talent" by having Goldfinger & Dove appear as guests on her show. This coincided with the appearance of Australian magician James Galea. So, let's cut to the chase. Here is all the video that we could pull together to document what happened including footage of the "protesters" and of James' performance. Thanks to Charlie Mortimer who helped put this together!
UPDATE: For clarity on the subject, the video of the protest was a joke. The two "protester's" are staff comedy writers who last year did a magic act that included a gamolo levitation and some cheesy choreography. It was part of a staff talent show put on expressly for Ellen. ( http://bit.ly/aBZWh5 )
The use of the name Gold Finger and Dove was more than likely chosen at random and is not meant to reflect badly on Jack Vaughn. In fact I suspect Warner Brothers and Ellen are not aware they exist. Warner Brothers has a huge law division who's job it is to investigate that a name being used fictitiously is copyright free. This clearance process is used on all episodes of all TV shows. The videos that show Ellen's G&D are not for broadcast and are merely for web based presentations so this precess may not apply. Might be a great opportunity for G&D to increase their retirement fund! ;-)
There is no controversy ... it was the staffs way of making Ellen laugh.
Cheers,
