KEITH BARRY SAYS, "THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A GOOD FEMALE MAGICIAN."
According to the Herald, Keith Barry is training a new generations of magicians, starting off with his nine month old daughter. According to Barry, "She can already do magic tricks, believe it or not, and she loves it," Keith revealed "I don't know about it being hereditary or anything like that, but she's doing well so far." Barry also makes what I imagine will prove to be a controversial statement as he looks to his daughter's future career when he says,"She can already do magic tricks, believe it or not, and she loves it," Keith revealed "I don't know about it being hereditary or anything like that, but she's doing well so far."
UPDATE: Keith Barry has responded to this piece after a flurry of activity on his and my Facbook Profiles after the story appeared by saying, "EVERY interview I do here in Ireland is heavily edited - I can tell you for a fact there has NEVER been a really good, high profile female magician here in Ireland. FACT. That is the point I was getting across. It was a light hearted piece which they used for a slow news day here in the Emerald Isle. Wishing you every success. Keith"
Keith Later Added: "Ahhh, people are just too sensitive. In the Herald today I was quoted as saying 'there has never been a good female magician'. I was obviously saying this in the context of Ireland as that is where the fecking newspaper is printed - and it is true. There has never been a high profile, decent female magician in Ireland. FACT. Of course what the paper failed to print was me saying I'd love to see one, etc, etc -"
Charlotte Pendragon Added: "You are uhhhhh right, and sort of wrong. There are definitely many good "technical" female magicians. Juliana Chen being on of them. There are NO real great female magicians. Don't be offended folks...but when you guys in magic land ask the typical lay person about a single great femmme magi' - I don't know about you, but I usually get Melinda. Melinda was sort of famous and she was not good. I'm good and enjoy some fame, but I could not put together more than a half hour of decent solo material."
