DERREN BROWN "CROWD SOURCES" THE LOTTERY :: BY BRENDAN BYRNE

After much anticipation, speculation, thousands of twitters and innumerable blogs,  millions tuned in earlier tonight as Derren Brown explained how he predicted the lottery.  He begins by saying how the special tonight mixes magic, misdirection, showmanship, psychology & suggestion and goes on to list 3 possible ways there is to win the lottery.  Fake a ticket - Predict the Numbers - Fix the machine. 

He disregards the fake a ticket method and fills the bulk of the remanining 50 minutes or so illustrating how, through the use of mathematical principle known as "The Wisdom of Crowds" he predicted the lottery. 

In the final segment of the show Derren explores, very tounge in cheek, how he might have fixed the machine and closes with the remark that "if anyone asks me how I predicted the lottery I will tell them it was all a trick" .  As with much of Derren's material, one needs to read between the lines.  Is this actually how he did it?  Who knows and frankly who cares, Derren and company are quite simply astoundingly brilliant.
