OUT-BLAINING BLAINE
It always amuses me when one of David Blaine's endurance stunts is discussed in the mainstream media. Simply because the word "magician" is attached to his name, the word "allegedly" is often tossed into the description of what he did. Take for example, the description of an upcoming Haiti fund raiser by UK television personality Tim Shaw in an article from Switched.com:
Tim Shaw, a broadcast personality in the U.K., is determined to out-Blaine David Blaine by locking himself inside a 3-foot by 4-foot by 8-foot steel box, with only the company of a constantly rolling camera to document the ordeal. Unlike Blaine, who (allegedly) went without food during his Times Square ice stunt, Shaw will be fed food and water through a hatch -- and he'll also be given a daily clue as to where exactly he is. According to Mashable, Shaw himself won't even know where he's located. He'll share the daily clue with his viewers, who can follow along on his Web site and count down the days until the daredevil officially goes insane. Fans are encouraged to use the clues and Google Maps to figure out his location, and the first person to get it right will receive about $47,000 (£30,000). If no one gets it right, though, Shaw has to stay in the box for the full 30-day sentence.
